What is the difference between 4 star and 5 star resorts?

Q. Im a 21 yr old male travelling to varadero Cuba in june. is there a significant difference between a four star resort and a five start resort? Im trying to save cash so would i be missing out if i go with a 4 star resort?

A. This is straight from the Orbitz website:

Here's an idea about what to expect with each star rating:

* 5 Stars - Luxury hotels: Treat yourself well with first-class services and accommodations. The hotel decor usually creates an elegant ambiance from the lobby to each individual guest room or suite. Hotel restaurants are often renown for their famous chefs and delectable dishes and are usually located in the most desirable locations in major cities and resort areas. Other amenities include: valet parking, concierge service, room service, well-equipped fitness centers and state-of-the-art business centers.

* 4 Stars - Deluxe/upscale hotels: Find comfort, class and quality that you can count on. These hotels will usually be in a prime location and other amenities may include: proximity to desirable shopping areas and restaurants, valet parking, concierge service, room service, well-equipped fitness centers and state-of-the-art business centers. These properties may be newly constructed or recently renovated, and offer tasteful decor in each room or suite.

* 3 Stars - Mid-scale hotels: Discover convenience and comfort in the city or in the suburbs where many of these properties are located. Amenities that may be available include: swimming pools, fitness centers, room service, concierge service and parking. Often you'll find these properties located near highways and office complexes. Rooms and lobbies are nicely furnished, and restaurants are usually located at the property.

* 2 Stars - Value Properties: Get back to basics with these comfortable properties that offer affordable prices. These properties are often located near office parks, airports, and shopping and retail areas. Rooms are comfortably decorated but not overly elegant. Usually, these properties do not have restaurants or room service, but offer free parking and sometimes, swimming pools. Transportation is occasionally offered to nearby airports.

* 1 Star - Economy Hotels & Motels: Stay in simple accommodations that typically are located near major highways and transportation. Amenities include free parking, local calls and cable television. Restaurants are often located nearby, and room service is usually not available. Some economy hotels and motels have swimming pools located on the property.

How do I get big discounts for hotels in Los Angeles area?
Q. We are planning a trip to Los Angeles. We want to stay at Santa Monica, but the hotel prices are way too pricey. We may stay in Los Angeles, not sure yet. Depends on hotels. I hear all of the time that there are ways to get big discounts, but I don't know how to do that.

A. Triple A is usually the common discount if you're a member.

As far as big discounts, if you're a big traveler you might want to look into becoming a Leisure Travel Consultant. You get great LTC rates on hotels, resorts, cruises, rental cars, etc. As well as make commissions from any sales you make.

If you don't like the idea of being an LTC, you could check out becoming a Dreamtrips member. Hands down they offer the best deals on luxury hotels, resorts, and trips i've ever seen. They're pretty unbelievable. I was sold as soon as I looked at what they had to offer and they keep adding more. With Dreamtrips the deals are for you and a guest/spouse and often includes the kids too. Definitely worth looking into.

Hope this helped.

How do you feel about Larry Ellison buying the Hawaiian island of Lanai?
Q. Ellison is the CEO of Oracle and one of the richest men in the world. He recently purchased Hawaii's sixth-largest island, Lanai, for his own private use. It apparently cost him half a billion dollars but he can obviously afford it. Are you good with this sort of thing or does it bother you? Please explain your reasoning.

A. I think it's great! He's a Job Creator, which should be the most revered & protected people in America.

You are not to question the intentions or actions of a Job Creator - doing so is un-American & Socialist.

In fact, I hope Larry Ellison buys the big island of Hawaii, kicks the Natives out, and turns into golf courses, luxury hotels, mining facilities, and training grounds for private military contractors that will protect our Freedom.
